A drawing, for me, is the first step in physically visualizing an idea or trying miscellaneous variations of a design. Especially in the early concept stage of a logo or ingame-model, hundreds of scribbles must be made. From my experience, I can draw without reference and still get the lighting and reflections right, but I'm far from beeing a master painter. However, looking at real objects really contributes to coming up with good ideas. I usually draw with a pencil and Copics on paper, but I also own several Wacom boards, which I prefer when working with color. Because organic designs are more forgiving when it comes to straight lines, I like to draw these more, while I prefer to use the help of 3D-modeling and illustrating for designing technology.
